What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is an ancient Chinese art that is over 3000 years old. The philosophy is based on the science that everything contains energy and all things both living and inanimate are energetically connected and constantly changing. In simplest terms, the practice of Feng Shui is the art of the placement of properties, homes, landscapes and all objects within an environment to maximize the flow of Ch’i or life force (energy). It is believed that doing so will enhance the happiness, health and prosperity of the occupants because your conscious mind is mirrored and represented in your environment. Maximizing positive energy and minimizing opposing forces will strengthen and empower our lives, restore balance and create healthy, supportive environments. The foundation of Feng Shui living is an uncluttered, moderately furnished and aesthetically pleasing home or business.
What will a Feng Shui Consultation consist of?
Along with Interior Decorating, Feng Shui practices can be incorporated to address challenges in a home or business and to work with the true intentions of the owners to create a harmonious environment. An experienced professional will use both ancient and modern ideas working with colours, shapes, materials, rhythm and symbology to clear energy blockages. For practical reasons, where less fortunate conditions exist, a Feng Shui Practitioner can recommend several improvements which can be implemented to release energy blockages and activate or modulate energy flow.
There are several schools of Feng Shui and Unique Surroundings offers consultations that include concepts from Form School, Compass School and Black Hat Sect Feng Shui. Consultations can be purely for Feng Shui purposes or can incorporate Interior Decorating expertise as well. To provide an example, a client of Unique Surroundings may wish to have a consultation where Feng Shui practices are used to determine what colour might be recommended in a space. We will assist the client in selecting the paint colour and finish to accomplish a wonderfully decorated room that also has great Feng Shui.
During the consultation the entire property, home or business will be professionally evaluated and recommendations made where necessary and helpful. The client’s conscious intentions and wishes are extremely important and the cornerstone of prioritizing recommended adjustments. Each room of the house or business will be visited including closets, basements and garages. The Bagua is utilized to map locations of the eight trigrams or life centers. Ch’i enhancers and changes in furniture placements are suggested and the client is assisted with setting priorities for change.
